Rose engine work dates back to the 16th century in materials such as ivory, horn and wood. It became a common decoration for watch cases. The Rosetta Lights series are created on a rose engine lathe made for The Moser Studio by an ornamental wood turner in Oregon. Rosettes are the pattern wheels which can be interchanged on the lathe to create different patterns depending on the shape of the wheels. Multiple rosettes can be used to create complicated patterns. Thus the name Rosetta Lights. Contemporary rose engine patterns are being done in my studio with cast optically clear acrylic. The jewelry is a fusion of dichroic glass, optical acrylic ornamented with rose engine patterns. | |
